THREADING
Meaning of Threading
- Threading is a natural method of removing unwanted hair using a cotton thread.
- The twisted thread traps and pulls out hair from the follicle.
- It is widely used for shaping eyebrows, removing upper lip hair, and small areas of the face.
Benefits of Threading
- Gives precise shape to eyebrows.
- Suitable for sensitive skin (no chemicals).
- Cost-effective and quick.
- Slower regrowth compared to shaving.
- Can remove even very fine hair.
Side Effects of Threading
- Temporary redness or swelling.
- Mild pain during procedure.
- Risk of skin irritation if technique is improper.

Materials Required for Threading
- Sterile cotton thread.
- Antiseptic lotion or toner.
- Cotton swabs and tissues.
- Scissors for cutting thread.
- Talcum powder (to reduce sweating and help grip hair).
Preparing the Client for Threading
- Wash hands and sanitize tools.
- Clean client’s skin with mild cleanser or antiseptic lotion.
- Apply talcum powder to absorb oil and sweat.
- Ask client to sit comfortably with proper support.
Technique of Threading
- Cut thread (about 45–50 cm).
- Knot ends to form a loop.
- Twist the loop 5–6 times to make a figure “X.”
- Place twisted section on unwanted hair.
- Move fingers to roll the twist over the skin, pulling out hair from the root.
Threading of Upper Lip
- Ask client to stretch the upper lip area.
- Move twisted thread gently along the lip line.
- Work in small sections for precision.
Eyebrow Shaping
- Discuss desired shape with client (arch, natural, round).
- Remove hair slowly and evenly from below and above eyebrow line.
- Use scissors for trimming long hair if required.
Threading for Men
- Can be used to clean eyebrows, forehead, cheeks.
- Often used for shaping beard lines.
- Provides a neat look without shaving.
Removal of Nose and Ear Hair
- Only outer visible hair is removed for hygiene and appearance.
- Special care needed as these are sensitive areas.
