Verbal Communication


1. Verbal Communication

Definition: Verbal communication is the process of sharing ideas, thoughts, and information using words, either spoken or written.


Types:

1. Oral/Spoken Communication

Involves face-to-face talks, phone calls, video conferences, speeches, interviews, meetings, etc.

Helps in instant feedback and building personal connection.


2. Written Communication

Involves letters, e-mails, reports, memos, notices, SMS, WhatsApp messages, etc.

Acts as a permanent record and can be referred back later.


2. Advantages and Disadvantages

Oral Communication

✅ Advantages: Quick, flexible, encourages interaction, immediate feedback.

❌ Disadvantages: No permanent record, message may be forgotten, chances of misinterpretation.


Written Communication

✅ Advantages: Provides record, clear and well-organized, can reach many people.

❌ Disadvantages: Time-consuming, lacks immediate feedback, sometimes lengthy or formal.


3. Public Speaking

Meaning: Public speaking is the art of speaking in front of a group or audience confidently and effectively.

Importance: Builds confidence, leadership qualities, communication power, and helps in influencing others.


Tips for Effective Public Speaking:

- Prepare well in advance.

- Use simple and clear language.

- Maintain eye contact with the audience.

- Use body language and gestures.

- Speak with confidence and clarity.
